Dr. Wailan Chan was born and raised in London Ontario. He attended The University of Western Ontario for his undergraduate studies where he attained an honours degree in Chemical & Biochemical Engineering. Dr.Chan then received a national scholarship to pursue research in the dental field by studying dental materials where he successfully defended his Masters in Biomedical Engineering. During that time, he presented at various national and international conferences, and received awards from the Canadian Association for Dental Research. Dr. Chan continued his interest in Dentistry by completing his Dental degree at The University of Western Ontario, where he graduated with honours and distinction.
Dr. Chan was active in many aspects during his dental training. He continued his research and received awards from the Canadian Dental Association for his work in dental biomaterials. He participated in dental outreach providing free dental care to families with limited access in the London community. He was also active in pediatrics, providing dental care to children during the summer clinic at the university.
After graduation, Dr. Chan was accepted into a General Practice Residency in Pediatric Dentistry at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, which is recognized as one of Canada’s foremost pediatric health-care institutions. He gained extensive experience in providing all aspects of dental care to infants, children and adolescents with a wide range of medical needs. He also worked at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, where he gained experience in working with those with special needs.
Dr. Chan has successfully completed the American Dental Association National Boards and the National Dental Examining Board of Canada exams. He is currently licensed with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, and is a member of the Ontario Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Chan is thrilled to make Ottawa his new home and is proud to join the team at Centrum Dental.
